Pekaay root

Twice annually the pekaay roots are ripe for the picking, alternating with the blossoming of the plants’ fragrant flowers. Among the natives of the pekaay’s native lands, Zephyria, the incredible spices made from the dried flowers and roots are commonplace. But to the rest of
Mars, the delicious spices from distant Zephyria are a rare and expensive pleasure—the princes of a hundred cities pay handsomely for just a touch of spice for their most special
meals. And why is pekaay spice so rare and expensive? Because the ancient canals which passed through Zephyria no longer swell with water, and the strong sandstorms of the
harvest seasons keep aerial ships at a distance. The only way into or out of Zephyria during the pekaay harvest is by caravan.
